What is the Spring Festival?

The Spring Festival is a community event for Heatherstone Elementary School sponsored by the Heatherstone Elementary PTO.  The annual event is also called the Fun Run, a popular event that brings family, fun, and fitness together. The event will include a carnival, complete with inflatables, rides and games.  Profits from the event go to support student and academic programs at Heatherstone School.

Where is Heatherstone School?
Heatherstone School is located at 13745 W. 123rd Street in Olathe, Kansas.

When is the Spring Festival?
This year’s event is scheduled for Friday evening, May 4th, 2012.  The 5K race will begin at 5:45 PM and the 1 Mile Family run/walk will start at 5:55 PM. Celebrity’s will start serving at 5:00 PM and the Silent Auction will be open for business starting at 5:00 PM. The Carnival will start at 6:00 PM. Platinum Sound will be DJing the event. They will start the entertainment at 5:00 and wrap-up along with the Carnival at 9:00 PM.

Where will the race be run?

Both the 5K and the 1 Mile Family run/walk both begin at the Heatherstone School site. The 5K route will go through the Heatherstone neighborhood and then onto the nearby Indian Creek path.  The final leg of the race will return the runners to Heatherstone School through Heatherstone Park.

The 1 Mile Family run/walk will follow the same route as the 5K race. At the ½ mile point, runners/walkers will circle back to the start/finish line at Heatherstone School.

How do I register for the Spring Festival?

Registration brochures are available at Heatherstone School, will be sent home in backpacks.  Also, a brochure can be downloaded from this website (see ‘Registration’ link on the website home page).  The registration deadline for the run and Celebrity’s dinner is Friday, April 13th, 2012.  Later registrations will not be guaranteed an event t-shirt. Carnival game tickets and ride wristbands can be purchased the night of the Spring Festival.

How much does the event cost?

The registration fee for the Fun Run is $12.00.  There is a family rate of $40 which allows one to register all members of the family.  This family rate comes with three official race t-shirts. Carnival wristbands to ride the rides and enjoy the inflatables can be pre-purchased for $8.00 per person. Game tickets can also be purchased ahead of time for $1.00 you get 5 tickets. If you want to purchase at the door. The bracelet will cost $9.00 and tickets will be 4 for $1.00.

What do I get with my registration?

Each race participant will receive an official race number, a race t-shirt, and access to post-race food and snacks. Carnival participants will receive pre-purchased wristbands and tickets. Celebrity’s meal tickets will also be in the packets of those who ordered a dinner. The bags are complements of Gary Gribble’s running store.

If I don’t participate in the run or carnival, can I still get involved in the Spring Festival?
Yes!  Volunteers are needed to help at the event.  Volunteers are needed to monitor the race course, man the two water stations, and direct runners around the start/finish area. We also need volunteers, 16 and older to help with the games and rides.

In addition, business are sought to provide financial or ‘in-kind’ gifts to support the event.  If you’d like to volunteer or be a business/corporate sponsor of this year’s Spring Festival, please contact the race director at the phone number or email address listed below.

What else takes place at the Spring Festival?
Throughout the event, music will be provided by Platinum Sound DJ.  This year’s event will also feature a Silent Auction where visitors can place bids for valuable gifts provided by many local businesses.
Will there be any concessions available?

There will be a meal available that is catered by Celebrity’s Sidewalk Café.  This meal must be ordered and pre-paid with your registration. Please see the registration brochure for details of the meal.
